City Rendering in Gangland

Gangland is a recently released PC game in the mafia genre. It is played in RTS style, ie. with a free top-down view rendering a 3D city seen from roof top height. In this presentation we look into the rendering of the city enviroment itself using a tile based approach and the pros and cons of this approach as opposed to a more general terrain engine. Topics include the map building process, the rendering itself and how the structure interacts with the rest of the game.
